What is the Michigan Harness Horsemen's Association?

Founded in 1947, We Seek To Serve.

The Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association was founded in 1947 to serve the collective needs of the state’s Standardbred horse owners, breeders, trainers, and drivers. The purposes of the MHHA are: To protect the financial interests of owners, trainers, drivers, breeders, and caretakers of Standardbred horses in Michigan. To supply horses to Michigan pari-mutuel racetracks, monitor and improve physical conditions and controls for individuals and horses participating at licensed race meetings, and assist race meeting licensees in conducting their racing programs. To encourage and promote the racing training and breeding of Standardbred horses and to administer futurities and stake events in Michigan. The MHHA negotiates horsemen’s contracts with pari-mutuel racetracks, functions as a liaison between the horsemen and Michigan county fairs, and represents the interests of all harness horsemen in state administrative, budgetary and legislative matters of concern to the horse racing industry.

Sign Up for Text Messages From the MHHA

You can now sign up for text messages from the MHHA. The MHHA pays for a texting service that allows us to communicate urgent updates related to the box remaining open because of a shortage of horses, weather impacting live racing at NDs or the county fairs, or other urgent changes we think our members want to know.

The Benefits of Membership

Joining the MHHA comes with benefits and program opportunities, all at an affordable price. The services of a volunteer Board of Directors who dedicate their efforts toward the improvement of the Standardbred racing and breeding industry in Michigan means a voice in Lansing with elected officials and our regulatory agencies; the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). Annual membership allows you to participate in programming at Michigan's harness racing pari-mutuel track, Northville Downs, and in our summer fair program at county fairs across the state. Members also have access to scholarship opportunities for their children and can participate in other great MHHA events like the annual banquet and gate training days. Being an MHHA member means you'll receive the latest information like racing schedules, newsletters, stallion directories, and more.
